Life Insurance

Basic Life Insurance

  • The PGCPS life insurance plan is administered by MetLife 
  • PGCPS provides the life insurance policy at NO COST to the employee   
  • Coverage is effective the date of hire
  • Coverage is two (2) times the annual salary rounded up to the nearest one thousand  
  • To add or delete beneficiaries and/or contingents log on to Oracle select PGCPS Employee Self Service-Benefits
  • Life insurance is also provided by the Maryland State Retirement System (see Retirement Plan)

Supplemental Life Insurance Plans

(View Summary)

  • The PGCPS Supplemental Life plans are administered by MetLife
  • Voluntary plan whereby employees must enroll within 35 days from date of hire or during Open Enrollment using PGCPS Employee Self Service
  • Supplemental Life Insurance is available to employees and their dependents (spouse & child(ren))
  • Employee coverage amounts are in increments of $50,000 to a maximum of $1,000,000 not to exceed 5 times annual salary
  • Dependent Spouse coverage amounts are in increments of $5,000 to a maximum of $50,000
  • Dependent Child coverage amounts are in increments of $2,000 to a maximum of $10,000
  • Employees who enroll into the Spouse and/or Dependent Child(ren) Life plans must enroll in the Employee Optional Life plan. Beneficiaries are added using PGCPS Employee Self Service
  • Premiums are deducted on an after-tax basis

Long Term Disability Insurance 

 (View Summary)

  • The PGCPS Long Term Disability plan is administered by MetLife
  • Voluntary plan whereby employees must enroll within 35 days from date of hire using PGCPS Employee Self Service
  • The plan provides income protection up to 60% of your monthly salary to a maximum of $5,000
  • Benefits are paid for as long as you remain disabled, or until you reach your Social Security Normal Retirement Age (as stated in the 1983 revision of the United States Social Security Act), whichever is sooner. If your disability occurs at age 63 or above, your payments may be reduced.
  • Waiting period; 180 days and/or exhaustion of Sick Leave Bank benefits
  •  Premiums are deducted on an after-tax basis
