The purpose of this course is to help students improve proficiency in basic math skills, problem solving, and math practices. The course will focus on three key units of study. Students will develop fluency in basic number concepts and math skills including whole numbers, decimals, fractions, the percent equation, proportions, equivalent forms of rational numbers, integers, comparing and ordering real numbers, and
the coordinate plane. Students will use measurement tools such as rulers, compasses and protractors to perform drawings and constructions as well as measure and solve math problems. Students will apply math practices such as using a variety of approaches to solve problems, justifying solutions with mathematical concepts, presenting mathematical explanations with words, numbers, and symbols, and relate mathematical ideas across the discipline. Additional indicators at each grade level will be infused into these three units as appropriate.
