Position Summary:

Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Career and Technical Education, the Career Experience Specialist - Business Liaison is responsible for communicating the school system’s mission, vision, values, and goals as it relates to the Career Academies to the business community and general public and for securing internship and career exploration and awareness opportunities for students and faculty. The Career Experience Specialist - Business Liaison also works with the Career Experience Specialist - School Liaison to develop relationships with external agencies, secure internship positions, and monitor the internships for efficiency.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Initiates and coordinates partnerships with business industry, post-secondary institutions, federal government, labor organizations, PTSA, military, public agencies, and civic and community-based organizations;

Coordinates special system-wide projects and participation in county, state, and national programs designed to provide industry-related opportunities for students and staff;

Builds, develops, and facilitates coalitions and networks of organizations that focus on education issues;

Maintains communication with partners to troubleshoot workplace problems and ensure relationships are sustained;

Coordinates school partnerships in conjunction with the Career Experience Specialist- School Liaison;

Educates the public about program objectives, goals, and activities;

Conducts system-wide in-service training on effective outreach to business and local communities to coordinators and staff;

Conducts professional workshops that help students connect their academic learning and career exploration and planning with internship experiences;

Facilitates recruitment and deployment of volunteers and seeks the assistance and involvement of community based organizations;

Promotes better overall understanding and working relationships between the school system and business community;

Conducts surveys and opinion polls to ensure the alignment of business partner opportunity with school needs;

Tracks and promotes the activities, achievements, participation, progress, and status of the programs and individual students;

Collects and maintains accurate data for analysis, evaluation, and program improvement; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of three years professional experience working in the private, government or not-for-profit sectors;

Minimum of one year experience working in a school-based or a college/university setting;

Experience working with high-school-age youth preferred;

Knowledge of the school district and students targeted for internship participation;

Strong interpersonal and human relations skills;

Strong technology skills; and

Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and listening skills.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required and Master's degree preferred in education, business, human resources, or a related field.

Certification:

None Required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
