Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Coordinator – Career Counseling will support the development, implementation and monitoring of a robust career counseling program in collaboration with Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Employ Prince George’s (EPG). The incumbent of this position will work with school personnel and career coaches to achieve the goals and objectives of the career counseling program. The Coordinator – Career Counseling services as the point of contact and liaison for school-based program personnel and career coaches.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides onsite support for career counselors and school based staff to include onboarding meetings with school personnel, individualized support, and training with program applications used in the program such as Naviance;
- Supports the creation of a coherent vision and programming for the career counseling program in collaboration with PGCC and EPG;
- Plans long-term and short-term objectives based on the career counseling Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in collaboration with career coaches and other career counseling partners;
- Develops and implements student recruitment strategies and facilitates student participation in the career counseling program;
- Disseminates program-related information and resources to students and families;
- Participates in trainings and meetings for career counselors and partner staff on PGCPS, Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Accountability and Implementation Board (AIB) protocols and policies;
- Facilitates regular meetings of the relevant school-based personnel to ensure that program activities are executed and that objectives are achieved;
- Reviews and evaluates program data and makes recommendations for implementation improvements;
- Serves as a liaison between PGCPS schools, PGCC and EPG; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of career counseling processes, technology and supports;
- Experience managing service delivery across multiple partners in a school or community-based setting;
- Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and stimulate staff and/or external partners to meet performance targets;
- A strategic and responsible decision-maker who displays consistent follow-through in meeting goals and achieving measurable results;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously;
- Ability to work independently and is a self-starter;
- Ability to keep abreast of new guidelines, emerging trends and best practices related to career counseling and support programs;
- Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office suites to include Word, Excel and Google Docs/Sheets;
- Familiarity with Naviance, SchoolLinks or other college and career readiness platforms;
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and
- Experience with public speaking, facilitation, and team building.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, public administration, social work or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in career counseling, college access, college and career advising, and/or workforce development.
