Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Instructional Specialist is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of department programs and initiatives and executing administrative responsibilities, as required. The incumbent of this position will track the progress of the department programs and initiatives, identify any areas of opportunity, and make recommendations for improvement. The Instructional Specialist will perform a variety of administrative tasks, such as managing budgets, scheduling meetings and preparing reports. The incumbent will work with educators and administrators to develop and implement curriculum, assess student learning and provide professional development.  The Instructional Specialist will also work with educators, administrators and other stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive system for evaluating the effectiveness of department programs and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Career and Technician Education (CTE) programs meet all industry standards with respect to each career cluster and it's programs;
  • Meets regularly with the advisory board for the respective academies;
  • Evaluates the design and delivery of research-based instructional programs with career and internship experiences for students at all levels;
  • Conducts assessments, data collection, and analysis of formal and informal data for use in targeting and monitoring the effectiveness of CTE programs;
  • Assists in evaluating instructional materials, digital textbooks, software and media;
  • Aids in supervising the preparation of curriculum guides in collaboration with the content supervisors within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction;
  • Plans, conducts and/or coordinates professional development for CTE educators and other personnel;
  • Conducts formal observations of teachers using Framework for Teaching, Institute for Learning Look Fors, and industry tools as appropriate;
  • Makes presentations within and outside the school system;
  • Attends and assists with CTE strategic planning, team meetings and professional development;
  • Coordinates requests from schools for assistance in working with CTE programs;
  • Collaborates with other departments to provide necessary services to students;
  • Oversees industry-based assessments and certification testing;
  • Aids in implementation of grant-funded related activities with fidelity;
  • Provides educators with the skills needed to effectively integrate technology into teaching; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to monitor the implementation of the academy curriculums and collect feedback to support the continuous improvement of academy course instructional guides and academy instruction in schools;
  • Knowledge of current research and trends in careers with special emphasis on curriculum, instruction, career experiences and assessment;
  • Ability to work collaboratively to develop curricular documents and assessments;
  • Ability to work effectively with classroom teachers, other instructional specialists, and professional organizations in providing rigorous academic experiences for all students;
  • Ability to support recruitment for CTE programs;
  • Experience developing curriculum and assessments aligned with local, state and national standards;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; including the ability to relate positively and interact effectively with educators, central office personnel, business partners and the general public;
  • Effective time management, documentation and organizational skills;
  • Highly self-motivated, self -directed and attentive to detail;
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented environment in order to provide collaborative planning and professional development;
  • Strong instructional and facilitator skills; and
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites).

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required; emphasis in one of the career and technical education fields of instruction and course work in curriculum development preferred.  A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.

Certification:

Advanced Professional Certificate with Administration I endorsement required. Certified in Framework for Teaching observations preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
