Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Instructional Specialist - Health Education is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of health education instruction, educational resources, health-related initiatives and executing administrative responsibilities as required. The incumbent of this position assists the Instructional Supervisor with all facets of curriculum development, professional development for staff, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners, and program evaluation.
• Assists in the development and implementation in the areas of elementary, middle and high school health education curriculum, instruction and classroom management of health-related materials;
• Assists in the development, administration, dissemination and analysis of data from health education assessments;
• Supports the coordination of both short and long-range planning for the improvement of the health education program;
• Assists in the development and facilitation of ongoing professional development for content educators;
• Supports the preparation of elementary, middle and high school health education curricular documents, aligned with state and national standards, best practices for instruction and legislative mandates for health education;
• Assists in the selection of health education instructional materials to support health education classroom instruction, best practices and curricular documents;
• Collaborates with other departments within curriculum and instruction and other central offices to support systemic program initiatives related to health education;
• Assists in monitoring the implementation of the elementary, middle and high school health education programs district wide;
• Assists in the management of budgets and purchase orders;
• Attends meetings, trainings and special events related to health education programming; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Knowledge of skills-based health education and curriculum development;
• Familiar with digital tools and platforms utilized for instructional purposes and methods for assessing student learning and program effectiveness;
• Effective communication skills, professional development planning and facilitation, and ability to collaborate with educators and partners;
• Ability to think creatively and critically to address instructional challenges;
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadliness;
• Ability to lead initiatives and design and implement strategies that meet the diverse needs of staff and students;
• Ability to stay current with health trends, educational research and best practices in health education; and
• Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office suites to include Word, Excel and Google Docs/Sheets.
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in supervision, educational administration, curriculum and instruction or a closely related field required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required. Previous administrative and/or leadership experience preferred.
Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement required.
