Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Coordinating Supervisor, the Instructional Supervisor for Advanced and Enriched Programs is responsible for monitoring programs and initiatives and executing administrative responsibilities as required for the following programs: Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate. The incumbent of this position assists the Coordinating Supervisor and the Director in developing aligned curriculum documents, providing professional development for staff, and developing a budget based on analysis of needs.  Special assignments are received through conferences, written instructions, and requests from the Director to the Coordinating Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the development and implementation in the areas of Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate curriculum, instruction, and classroom management of such materials;
  • Providing both short and long-range planning for the improvement of the Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate programs;
  • Supervises and coordinates the development and implementation of a professional development program for teachers of Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate, including the designing and teaching of state approved workshops, summer institutes, after school programs, and leadership conferences;
  • Evaluates and monitors the preparation of curriculum documents, correlation of instructional materials documents, and units of study;
  • Supervises the acquisition, distribution and monitoring of instructional resources correlated to the Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate curriculum frameworks (e.g., texts, software, computers, audiotapes, etc.);
  • Assists in the management of budgets, purchase orders and resource allocations related to Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate;
  • Monitors the implementation of the Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate programs district wide;
  • Serves as liaison between Curriculum and Instruction and Student Services for SAT and PSAT, in particular;
  • Works with MSDE and college and university partners to enhance opportunities for students and staff of the programs;
  • Works with the Coordinating Supervisor to develop and monitor progress for accountability;
  • Observes and evaluates educators of Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate, as needed;
  • Identifies items for formative assessments for programs, in particular Advanced Placement;
  • Oversees other projects and prepares reports as designated by the Coordinating Supervisor and/or Director; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in general educational settings required;
  • Experience as a school based coordinator of an AP or IB program preferred for at least three years;
  • Demonstrated experience in the range of issues and programs relevant to the Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate programs;
  • Knowledge of current trends in Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate programs;
  • Demonstrates competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for teachers, principals, and parents;
  • Ability to support recruitment for Advanced Placement, AVID, SAT, PSAT and International Baccalaureate programs;
  • Experience working with College Board or International Baccalaureate desired;
  • Knowledge of Common Core Standards and alternative modes of assessment;
  • Experience in writing curriculum framework guides or an integrated curriculum desired;
  • Demonstrates experience in writing and managing grants and budgets preferred;
  • Ability to analyze student performance and participation data;
  • Understanding and experience in implementing special education accommodations and modifications;
  • Effective planning and organization skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
  • Experience working with computers and various technology associated with project and budget management; and
  • Demonstrates skill in effective human relations and in oral and written communications.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Math, Science or Social Studies content; and Master’s Degree required in Curriculum and Instruction, Secondary Education, or School Administration and Supervision;  minimum five (5) years of English, Math, Science or Social Studies teaching experience required in high school; experience in teaching IB or AP courses preferred; minimum of three (3) years supervisory or specialist experience preferred.

Certification:

Advanced Professional Certificate; Administrator I Certification required; Certification in either secondary (6-12) English, Math, Science or Social Studies education required; certified in Framework for Teaching observations preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees and provides guidance and direction to assigned personnel.
