Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Program Coordinator will assist with the instructional program and pupil service functions of the school. The incumbent of this position is responsible for monitoring, implementing and assessing the ELD Programs and communicating with appropriate stakeholders. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs day-to-day operational management in support of ELD Strategic Plan and Title III goals;
  • Monitors and recommends program enhancements to the Instructional Supervisor;
  • Coordinates and facilitates all ELD projects;
  • Collaborates with administrative and ELD staff to accomplish goals;
  • Plans, manages and monitors the various county-wide and school-based ELD Programs funded by MSDE Title III;
  • Locates resources for ELD activities;
  • Plans, organizes and facilitates Title III county-led professional development in coordination with the district’s professional development office as appropriate;
  • Maintains records for all ELD activities for program accountability; submits reports in a timely manner;
  • Coordinates communication within the school with administrators, families, staff, outside agencies, and/or personnel from other programs;
  • Establishes and implements school policies and administrative regulation pertaining to student activities; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge in designing, implementing and evaluating major programs and activities to bring about needed change and higher performance;
  • Effective oral and written skills in communicating with students, staff, community, district personnel and Board members in a timely, clear and appropriate manner;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in using collaboration and consensus building in decision-making processes;
  • Ability to use diversified approaches and processes to involve others in generating solutions, predicting consequences and setting priorities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues relevant to second language acquisition and sheltering content instruction;
  • Experience in planning and conducting staff training;
  • Ability to research and interpret research findings, oral and written; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience and k-12 education experience required; ELD teaching experience preferred.  Experience leading instructional teams (e.g., collaborative planning), interpreting and presenting data to teams, etc. preferred.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for a Standard Professional Certificate (SPC) issued by the Maryland State Department of Education required; Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) in ESOL K-12 preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
