Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Coordinating Supervisor, the Resource Teacher will assist with the planning, preparation, and implementation of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) lessons and projects for our STEAM Lab schools. The incumbent of this position will also facilitate STEAM project-based learning professional development for educators, use student learning data to revise activities and collaborate with curriculum and instruction department personnel to review best practices and instructional strategies for delivering content.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports schools with specialized STEAM Labs to implement STEAM challenges;
  • Develops STEAM partnerships to assist with programmatic support, conducts ongoing research for instructional, innovative strategies which promote best practices in STEAM teaching and learning, and supports professional learning opportunities for educators;
  • Collaborates with the appropriate departments in the Division of Academics to develop high quality aligned integrated STEAM learning activities;
  • Provides training, instructional coaching and professional development for educators on STEAM integration practices, processes, strategies and applications;
  • Collects and analyzes data on STEAM project-based learning implementation and outcomes to identify areas of success and opportunities for improvement;
  • Assists in the coordination of both short and long-range planning for the improvement of the STEAM program in PGCPS;
  • Assists in the securing and writing of grants related to STEAM programs;
  • Assists in the development of monitoring tools for the evaluation of the STEAM instructional program;
  • Assists in the management of budgets and purchase orders;
  • Participates in STEAM related local, state and national conferences and meetings; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of inquiry-based learning methods to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration;
  • Comprehension of the Next Generation Science Standards, Standards for Mathematical Practices, Computer Literacy Standards, project-based learning, and curriculum writing;
  • Instructional coaching, leadership and communication skills;
  • Curriculum development skills; ability to organize competencies into specific themes, establish criteria for performance, create learning experiences, assess competencies, and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum;
  • Technological proficiency in utilizing data systems, online resources, and other instructional tools to support project-based learning implementation and monitoring;
  • Organization and time management skills;
  • Ability to design and implement effective STEAM instructional strategies that cater to diverse learning styles (pedagogical acumen);
  • Stay current with advancements in STEAM fields and incorporate new information into the teaching approach;
  • Ability to facilitate workshops, training sessions, and collaborative initiatives that contribute to the professional growth of STEAM classroom educators; and
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data related to student outcomes, project implementation, and other metrics.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable field of education required; Master’s degree preferred.  A minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience required, preferably in a STEAM field.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional certificate appropriate to the area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
