Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Resource Teacher for Early Childhood Accreditation will provide intentional coaching, professional development, and training for prekindergarten teachers and paraprofessionals in schools who are seeking Maryland accreditation/re-accreditation for their school program.  The incumbent of this position will work with the Instructional Supervisor and school teams during their accreditation/re-accreditation cycle to meet requirements for Maryland EXCELS and Maryland Accreditation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides intentional coaching to assigned educators; assists in lesson planning, development of instructional materials, and implementation of curriculum and assessment to support fulfillment of Maryland EXCELS and Maryland Accreditation standards;
  • Provides professional development, training and modeling of early childhood and child development best practices;
  • Attends school-based grade level collaborative planning meetings and other relevant school team meetings;
  • Maintains required documentation and follows required procedures and practices in support of accreditation standards;
  • Supports school teams with conducting an annual program evaluation and accreditation self-appraisal;
  • Improves skills and knowledge-base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connection; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of the early childhood pedagogy and the teaching and learning/process;
  • Knowledge of early childhood related regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of Maryland EXCELS and Maryland Accreditation requirements and standards;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills; and human relations skills;
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities; and
  • Ability to work effectively with administration, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents and the community.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood or a closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred.  A minimum of five (5) years of successful early childhood experience required; previous experience with Maryland EXCELS and/or Maryland Accreditation preferred.

Certification:

Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
