Relocation Assistance Program
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) offers relocation assistance to eligible newly hired full-time educators. Please note: Reimbursement is not guaranteed, as it is contingent upon available funding and compliance with the guidelines.

Relocation Assistance Program Guidelines
- Eligibility
- Who’s Eligible
- New full-time educators only
- Must relocate 75+ miles from previous residence
- Local address must be updated in Oracle
- Submit original receipts/forms by the due date listed in the program email announcement sent in October, January, and February
- Expenses must occur after the employment contract is signed
- Please do not submit receipts for expenses incurred in an effort to secure employment with PGCPS.
- Must complete 6 months of satisfactory service
- No disbursements will be made until a satisfactory mid-year evaluation is completed and verified by the Office of Employee Performance. Please do not call or email for status updates before mid-year evaluations are finalized. You will receive an update once performance ratings are available.
- Not eligible if:
- You previously received relocation funds from PGCPS
- You are a Visiting Teacher Program participant
- In another bargaining unit other than PGCEA
- What’s Covered (Up to $2,500 Total)
- Commercial movers (with tax ID)
- Packing, shipping, and moving supplies
- Optional insurance on household items
- Rental trucks/trailers
- Storage (max 30 consecutive days)
- One-way travel for the employee only includes:
- Gas (personal vehicle and/or rental truck), tolls, parking (original receipts required)
- The paper gas pump receipt is required
- Travel by air or train (coach only) (original receipts required)
- Economy car rental (original receipts required)
- Lodging in a hotel, motel, Airbnb, etc. (up to 30 days) (original receipts required)
- What’s Not Covered
- Expenses for others or paid by someone other than a spouse
- If a spouse paid for the expense, a copy of the marriage certificate is required
- Storage/lodging beyond 30 days
- Rent, deposits, or real estate costs
- Utilities, phone/internet setup
- Furniture, clothing, food
- Vehicle repairs, towing services
- Speeding, parking, or any other citation fines
- Cashier’s check or bank fees
- Special handling fees (e.g., boats, motorcycles)
- Submitting Receipts with Proof of Payment
- Original receipts required
- All receipts/contracts must show how and when payment was made and show that the expense was paid for by the new employee or their spouse, along with a copy of the marriage certificate (canceled checks, credit card/bank statements in the new employee's name or spouse only).

- Tape small receipts to blank paper (no staples)
- Incomplete or late submissions will be returned
- Employment Obligation
- You must remain employed for 3 full years. If you leave early, repayment may be required.
- Payment Info
- Reimbursements are processed in the order received and based on available funds*
- Payment made upon completion of 6 months of satisfactory service
- Payment disbursed via direct deposit (same account as payroll)
- Payments are typically paid annually in March
