Proposed Attendance Area Adjustments for School Year 2026-2027

Attendance area adjustments are proposed for the following schools to balance enrollment and optimize facility utilization:

  • Vansville Elementary School
  • Beltsville Academy
  • Martin L. King, Jr. Middle School
  • Buck Lodge Middle School

The primary goal of the adjustments is to bring schools within the target facility utilization range of 80-95%. Currently:

  • Beltsville Academy and Buck Lodge Middle are over-utilized (above the target range)
  • Vansville Elementary and Martin L. King, Jr. Middle are under-utilized (below the target range)

By adjusting boundaries, the district aims to decrease the variance in utilization, reducing the need for temporary spaces and improving access to electives and programs.

If approved, these changes will impact approximately 300 students:

  • Vansville Elementary: receive approximately 120 students from Beltsville Academy.
  • Martin L. King, Jr. Middle: receive approximately 75 students from Beltsville Academy and 100 students from Buck Lodge Middle.

Students entering the final grade (5th or 8th) at their current school, may be permitted to remain for one year with parent-provided transportation.
