Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (open during lunch periods). If a medical provider is not available during SBHC operating hours, students can still be seen via telehealth. An on-call physician is available when the SBHCs are closed (i.e., weekdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., weekends and holidays). SBHCs follow the PGCPS closure and holiday schedule.
Any student currently enrolled at a participating school with a consent form on file can receive services. SBHC staff will assist students with transitioning to another health care provider after they graduate.
Students do not directly pay for services. Instead, if a student is insured, the insurance may be billed where applicable. A social worker can help students apply for insurance if they do not have an active insurance plan.
Yes. SBHCs can either supplement existing services received from a student's primary health care provider or serve as a student's regular health provider. SBHCs offer the convenience of a doctor's visit without missing an entire day of school or requiring a parent/guardian to miss work. SBHC staff communicate with your regular doctor to keep them informed.
Yes. A student does not need parental consent to use the SBHC for confidential services.
Students who wish to use the SBHC for only confidential services can sign their own consent form. Confidential services include, but are not limited to:
No. Guardians are always welcome to attend non-confidential visits. However, it is not required that they be present on site.
Guardians can be called via telephone during or after the visit and will receive a visit summary afterwards.
If a student needs to be seen at the SBHC for either confidential services or an emergency, enrollment will be completed by SBHC staff, as applicable. Parents/guardians will be contacted for verbal approval in the case of an emergency or if a medical visit outside of the SBHC is needed.
