Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) proudly announces the grand opening of its new School-Based Health Center (SBHC), made possible through awarded grant funding from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) School-Based Health Center Planning Grant Program.
This milestone represents a significant investment in student health, wellness, and academic success. Through the support of MDH funding and strategic partnerships with United Way of the National Capital Area and Children’s National Hospital, PGCPS has strengthened its commitment to expanding access to comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services directly within the school setting.
The SBHC will provide accessible primary care, urgent care for illness and injury, behavioral health services, preventive care, and health education. By reducing barriers such as transportation challenges, appointment availability, cost, and time away from work and school, the center ensures that students can receive timely care in a safe and familiar environment.
The establishment of the SBHC reflects PGCPS’ ongoing commitment to health equity and whole-child wellness by recognizing that healthy students are better prepared to learn, grow, and thrive academically and socially.
The grand opening marks an important step forward in creating healthier school communities and highlights the power of strong state and community partnerships in supporting student success.
