Prekindergarten Expansion

The PGCPS Early Learning Office continues to work with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to assist the schools listed below in the Maryland Accreditation/EXCELS process. This means that programs commit to continuous quality improvement to benefit children, families and staff.

*New to the Excels/accreditation process

Thus far, MSDE visited Cool Spring Elementary School on February 28, 2023, and Carmody Hills Elementary School on March 1, 2023. District Heights Elementary School and H. Winship Wheatley Early Childhood Center received a Decision 1 – Re-accreditation from MSDE, which means the accreditation application has been awarded for the next three years.  

Additionally, the PGCPS Early Childhood Office is working with PGCPS Office of Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries and the Department of Information and Technology to create a solution for a common enrollment system with child care providers as mandated by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
