Principal's Staff Introduction Letter

July 14, 2023

Greetings Northwestern Family,

As a new member to the Wildcat Nation,  I join you with more than 20 years of educational experience. I have served the students of Guilford County Public Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, and Prince George’s County Public Schools as a teacher, department chairperson, and assistant principal. My unique experiences, and my commitment to continuous learning, has helped shape my educational philosophy and focus. In collaboration with our parents, families, students, staff, and neighborhood partners, we will develop strong relationships to create a community of support for our scholars.  I am committed to build on the foundation created at Northwestern High School and together establish a legacy of academic excellence and cultural empowerment.

I am excited to share my vision as we develop an instructional program designed to meet the needs of our diverse student population. To create a climate that is conducive for teaching and learning, we must work together by being innovative, transformative, and collaborative. As we work to achieve our instructional goals, we will focus on developing supportive instructional teams and on engaging in professional learning focused on the components of Visible Learning, which will ensure an equitable and welcoming environment for our students. When we commit to uniting together for these goals, we will meet the needs of our students and encourage them to “Let Their Talents Roar” in this ever-changing global society.

With this in mind, I have great expectations of our students; safety is my highest priority! This means that students will be wearing with pride their uniforms, consisting of navy pants and a white polo shirt, and their school-issued IDs at all times. We will be encouraging students to speak up when something is not right and respecting their fellow “Wildcat” by making good decisions with their actions and their words.

Please join me in a community meet and greet on Thursday, July 20th.  I look forward to meeting everyone and I intend to make you proud as your Wildcat Proud Principal!!  Enjoy the remaining days of summer vacation!

Respectfully,

NKenge S. Barker

Acting Principal
