Welcome Back to School

Greetings, Yorktown Families!

I trust you are all well and hope that you are having a wonderful summer break! Our school team has been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming school year and we look forward to continued partnerships with our parents, PTA, and school community to ensure that our students’ learning experiences are rich, meaningful, and impactful in our efforts to develop our future leaders.  

In preparation for the first day of school (Monday, August 28th), you will find important information and updates below.  Please note: The information included in this letter is subject to change in accordance with systemic updates.  We appreciate your patience and flexibility!

Staffing Updates

Please extend a warm welcome to the newest members of the Yorktown Elementary School family!

  • Mrs. Karen Jenkins - Kindergarten Teacher
  • Mrs. Jacqueline Taylor-Scott - Second Grade Teacher
  • Mrs. Anita Dickerson - Fifth Grade Teacher
  • Mr. David Summey - Physical Education Teacher

As you may know, PGCPS has been affected by the continued nationwide teacher staffing shortage. We are very fortunate to be able to start the school year with all positions filled with highly qualified, fully-certificated staff and are excited about the knowledge and experience that our new team members will contribute to our staff and school community!

School Supplies

The Yorktown Elementary school supply list has been posted to the school website. 

Student Meals

Breakfast and lunch will be available for students to purchase each day.  The cost for breakfast is $1.60.  The cost for lunch is $2.75. Parents are encouraged to prepay for meals by depositing funds into your student’s account using the electronic payment system which can be accessed online at Myschoolapps.com. 

Meal benefit applications, which are used to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price meals, will be available for pick-up in the school office or online at Myschoolapps.com.  Online applications are processed within 24-48 hours. 

Important Dates

  • Kindergarten & New Student Orientation - Friday, August 25 

All kindergarten and new students are invited to attend a brief orientation and classroom visit. We will host two sessions:

Kindergarten Families - 9:00 - 10:00am

1st - 5th New Families - 10:30 - 11:30am

 

  • Sneak a Peek at Your Child’s Seat - Friday, August 25

 

Returning 1st through 5th grade students are invited to stop in to meet your homeroom teacher and drop off school supplies between 1:00 and 2:00pm.

 

  • First Day of School Monday, August 28

 

 

  • Back to School Night  - Thursday, September 14 @ 6:00pm

 

 

  • School Closed (Labor Day) - Monday, September 4

 

 

  • School Closed (Yom Kippur) - Monday, September 25
