The Teacher Mentor Program (TMP) provides a variety of supports and resources to new teachers to assist with the successful transition into Prince George’s County Public Schools. TMP mentors provide mentoring, coaching, and modeling of best practices throughout the induction period.

Induction Supports for Teachers

We provide monthly professional development sessions for our new teachers.


New Teacher Boot Camp (NTBC) is a voluntary pre-service component of the Professional Educator Induction Program (PEIP). NTBC offers opportunities for new teachers to:

  • connect with experienced educators;
  • learn strategies and gather resources for Distance Learning;
  • explore Google Suite, including Google Classroom and Google Calendar;
  • engage in mindfulness and mental health sessions to prepare the whole educator; and
  • participate in fun-filled engagement activities to help you become acquainted with PGCPS offices and initiatives. 

NTBC prepares teachers with the knowledge on how to establish and maintain success throughout the school year. 

The Professional Educator Induction Program (PEIP) facilitates the professional development of teachers during their induction period. Through this program, new teachers receive guidance and training designed to assist them in developing their skills and understanding in implementing curricula and programs required by the school system. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) invites all newly hired teachers to participate in engaging, hands-on pre-service training opportunities!

Professional Educator Induction Program 2.0 (PEIP 2.0) is a component of the district’s New Teacher Academy focused on Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching (FfT.) This monthly series will target first through third year teachers. However, all educators are welcome! Please view the PEIP 2.0 Monthly Series for dates and location. Courses will be listed in MyPPS.

National Board Certification Teacher Program

National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

While teacher licensure systems set the basic requirements to teach in each state, completion of National Board Certification signifies that teachers have voluntarily gone much further. NBCTs have developed and demonstrated the advanced knowledge, skills and practices required of an outstanding educator.

Board certification is available in 25 certificate areas, from Pre-K through 12th grade. The certification process consists of four components: written assessment of content knowledge, reflection on student work samples, video and analysis of teaching practice, and documented impact and accomplishments as a teaching professional. The process can be completed within one to three academic years.

In partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) candidates will receive: 

  • $1900.00 Scholarship for participation
  • Monthly Candidate Support Sessions
  • One-to-one Mentor Support

PGCPS Requirements for participation:

  •  Three years in Maryland as a professional educator/counselor
  •  Satisfactory rating on the Framework for Teaching Evaluation
  •  Recommendation from Current Supervisor or Principal

Information sessions for the 2019-2020  PGCPS National Board Certification Program will begin in September 2019 and will be announced in the PGCPS Employee Dispatch.

G3 Teacher and School Leader Incentive Program

The Teacher School Leader (TSL) grant was awarded to Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) from the United States Department of Education to improve teacher hiring, placement, support and retention in 40 high need PGCPS schools. New or current classroom teachers that are deployed to one of TSL grant schools may be eligible for a recruitment incentive.
