The Class of 2026 at Laurel High School continues to make the school community proud, earning an impressive $8,355,360 in scholarships and financial awards.
Among the class's standout seniors is Montel Harper, who made school history as the first Laurel High athlete to clear the bar in pole vault. A dedicated student-athlete throughout his life, Montel earned more than $20,000 in scholarships and plans to attend Stevenson University to major in cybersecurity.
Students across multiple academic and career pathways also achieved remarkable success this year. In the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) program, six Early Childhood Development students earned their Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials. In the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, all seniors in Cosmetology, CISCO, and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) programs achieved a 100% passing rate on their board exams.
Laurel High School also celebrated 37 students earning the Seal of Biliteracy and 42 students completing more than 100 service-learning hours, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence and community service.
The school's Future Business Leaders of America chapter earned Gold Plus recognition in the Champion Chapter Competition, ranking among the top FBLA chapters in the nation. The chapter will be recognized this summer at the National Convention in San Antonio. Notably, Laurel's salutatorian serves as the chapter president.
In environmental science, Laurel High School has now won the countywide Envirothon competition five consecutive years in a row. Each member of the winning team receives a $1,500 award, and two students who participated on the team all four years have earned a total of $6,000 each through the competition.
Laurel students also continued to excel in athletics, with five student-athletes scheduled to compete in the state track and field finals at Morgan State University.
Congratulations to the Laurel High School Class of 2026 for their hard work, determination, leadership, and continued success!
