Hundreds of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) students took an important step toward civic engagement this spring by participating in a districtwide voter registration drive in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Prince George's County (LWVPGC).

The initiative, a collaboration between the League of Women Voters, the PGCPS Social Studies Office and the Prince George's Regional Association of Student Governments (PGRASG), encouraged eligible students ages 16 and older to register to vote while learning firsthand about the democratic process.

Across 11 high schools, 349 students registered to vote, while an additional 614 students signed up to serve as election judges, gaining hands-on experience with elections and civic responsibility.

To inspire participation, schools competed to register the highest number of eligible student voters, with prize money awarded to the top-performing Student Government Association executive boards.

Congratulations to our winners:

"This year's voter registration drive brought school and community leaders together to empower our students to participate in our democracy!" said David Duba, Social Studies teacher at Bowie High School. "We're proud of our work in registering hundreds of students to vote. We've learned more about the barriers to voter registration, and we're ready to continue the work next school year."

The voter registration drive reflects PGCPS' commitment to preparing students not only for college and careers, but also for active citizenship. By connecting classroom learning with real-world civic participation, students gained valuable experience while helping strengthen their communities.
