About the Program

Media Arts is the newest art form to be recognized at the national and state level. Maryland State Department of Education's definition of Media Arts is "using creative technologies for artistic purposes."

Our mission is to empower students through the creative and transformative power of media arts. We are dedicated to fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment where every student can explore, create, and express their unique perspectives. By providing state-of-the-art resources, innovative curricula, and diverse collaborative opportunities, we aim to amplify student voices and stories, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to the global conversation. We strive to cultivate critical thinking, technical proficiency, and a deep understanding of media's impact on society, preparing our students to be visionary leaders and ethical communicators in the ever-evolving world of media.

The Media Arts central office staff can conduct informal observations for tenured and non-tenured teachers to support school-based administrators. Media Arts can also facilitate on-site workshops that further promote arts integration strategies that naturally combine media arts content standards with other content areas.

Highlights of Media Arts:

  • The PGCPS Film Festival has grown every year.
  • In partnership with Prince George's Community College, high schoolers experience Content Creator Day to experience a college and career path in media arts production.
  • Honors Media Arts students produced a podcast series called Speak-Up!
  • Increase in schools offering Media Arts courses
  • Collaborations with other offices to provide the most opportunities for students.
