Summer Checkup

School Website Check-Up ☀️

Before summer begins, take a few minutes to prepare your school website for summer communication and back-to-school updates.

A little cleanup now can make back-to-school updates much easier in August.

  • Select a school website editor if your school does not currently have one assigned
  • Ensure at least one 12-month staff member has website access during the summer
  • Update or post school supply, uniform, and summer information if available
  • Remove or archive outdated announcements, newsletters, and expired events
  • Review the Principal’s Welcome page and remove references to the 2025–2026 school year where appropriate
  • Review your school's handbook. Remove references to the 2025–2026 school year; then you only have to update it when necessary!
  • Move important family resources higher on the homepage such as supplies, registration, transportation, and summer information
  • Check staff and administrator information including counseling assignments, grade-level contacts, sponsors, and teacher links
  • Verify ownership/access for communication tools such as Twitter/X, Google Sites, Canva, shared drives, and calendars
  • Test important links, forms, and PDFs to ensure they still work correctly. Use Siteimprove to monitor your site.
  • Need Help? The Web Services team is available throughout the summer for support, training, and troubleshooting.

Office Website Check-Up ☀️

Before summer begins, take a few minutes to review and refresh your office website so staff and families can easily find accurate information during the summer months.

  • Review office contact information, office hours, and department emails
  • Remove outdated announcements, alerts, newsletters, and expired events
  • Check staff directories and leadership pages for staffing changes
  • Make sure important forms and documents are still current
  • Move high-priority resources higher on the homepage such as summer programs, family resources, hiring information, and department services
  • Test important links, forms, and downloadable PDFs through Siteimprove.
  • Refresh outdated homepage photos or banners where needed
  • Make Important Information Easy to Find

Take a fresh look at your homepage and ask:

  • Can visitors quickly find the most important services?
  • Are key resources visible without excessive scrolling?
  • Are emergency, enrollment, hiring, or summer resources easy to access?

Reach More Families with Automatic Website Translation 🌍

Did you know your school or office website can automatically translate content into multiple languages for families?

Here’s the key:

Text posted directly on your website can be translated automatically. PDFs usually cannot.

Instead of only uploading a flyer or PDF:

  • Copy and paste the information into an:
    • Announcement
    • Webpage
    • Spotlight
    • Homepage message

This helps families access information instantly in their preferred language.

Try It Yourself!

Visit your school or office website and:

  1. Click the language menu in the top-right corner
  2. Select another language
  3. Watch your website content translate automatically!

Small changes like posting text directly on your website can make a big difference in helping all families stay informed and connected.
