TAG in the Regular Classroom
The TRC Program offers appropriate advanced activities using strategies of Differentiated and Enriched Instruction within the regular classroom. This model is appropriate for schools with larger TAG populations (50+). The components of the TRCprogram are as follows:
- TAG students are cluster grouped with at least 7 other TAG students
- Differentiated instructional strategies in the heterogeneous classroom
- curriculum compacting

- enrichment clusters
- Guided Independent Study/advanced research opportunities
- Enrichment in the content areas
- Junior Great Books Discussion Program

- Math acceleration based on student readiness levels
- Instruction and activities reflecting the unique academic and educational needs of gifted learners.
- Twice Exceptional Services, as needed
- Off-site educational, scientific, and artistic enrichment opportunities based on interests
Identification For Gifted Services
Talented and Gifted (TAG) Screening Information
- PGCPS students will participate in a universal screening process for gifted and talented identification in Grade 1 and 4.
- New registrants to PGCPS in grades 2, 3 and 5 will be tested.
- Student in grades 1 - 3 complete the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) and Students in grade 4 and 5 complete the Cognitive Abilities Tests (CogAT)
- Students in grades 1-5 iReady Reading percentiles scores are included in the screening process
- Students in grades 4 and 5 MCAP Reading and Math district percentile scores are used in the screening process.
- All students scoring 81 percentile or higher are automatically screened as 81 percentile - 99 percentile is within the qualifying range.
- Parents and Teachers may nominate students for TAG screening by January 15th. Screening does not mean testing. The TAG Coordinator will review existing assessment data.
- Contact the TAG Coordinator for screening.
- Test data is valid for 2 years and The TAG Coordinator can screen students using valid assessment data. Students with valid test data will not be retested.
- TAG identification is a multiple criteria process including cognitive ability test data, achievement data, teacher checklist of gifted characteristics, and report card grades.
- Test scores will be sent home from the school.
- Please do not request test data from the TAG Office.
- The DKFI School-based TAG Coordinator will screen every student who scores 81 percentile or higher on the cognitive ability assessment.
Talented and Gifted (TAG) Programs and Services
- All students identified for TAG services this year will automatically participate in our TRC Program next year. Parents do not have to register the students as this is automatic.
- Parents/guardians may apply to the TAG Center Program via lottery DURING the screening process. Students MUST be TAG identified in order to receive placement into the TAG Center Program. Placement in a TAG Center beyond grade 2 is often limited,
