Principal Bell's Summer Letter

Carmen-Bell.pngJune 30, 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are having a great summer. I also hope that you and your child(ren) are doing some daily reading to keep your most important organ exercised, your brain. All students should have received a summer reading workbook (Summer Bridge Activities)/project, summer letter and a school supply list from Longfields. Research proves that students who did not read over the summer were 2-3 weeks behind their peers come August. That means it takes a student who does not read over the summer 2-3 weeks to catch up to their peers who did read over the summer, putting them at a significant academic disadvantage starting off the school year. We recommend students complete a few workbook pages every week (designed to bridge skills from the current grade level to the next) and daily reading. Students who fully complete their workbook and bring it to school as evidence will receive multiple treats and prizes.

A list of school supplies specific to grade levels were distributed to students in early June 2023. This will also be posted to our school site shortly.  We hope you are able to find the best quality supplies at the best prices with this advance notice. Please be reminded, student earphones are required. Check out Five Below for a variety of cheaper options.

We will be posting to our website the SY24 Parent-Student Handbook and the SY24 parent letter, which will include your student’s daily schedule and the orientation/mock school/Meet & Greet date. When your child arrives for their first day of school, the homeroom teacher will have a hard copy of your child’s schedule for the 2023-2024 school year, as well as emergency contact forms, Monday Folder expectations, agenda book requirements and more.

Remember, each school year, our students get to reinvent themselves. Some students may have not done their best last year, that’s okay too; with each new school year they get a fresh start. We encourage all students to participate in our school community by becoming involved in a variety of activities such as clubs, activities or chorus, as well as other events and happenings that are taking place throughout the school year.

I am honored to be your principal and am excited about this upcoming school year. Our staff, although enjoying the summer, are also currently attending workshops, creating the master schedule and planning for a successful 2023-2024 school year. Our outstanding building services staff, secretary, counselor and Community Coordinator are making sure the building and all the important behind-the-scenes effects are in top running order and ready for August. I want to invite parents, guardians and family members to get involved both here at Longfields and in partnership with your child’s educational experience. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

 Educationally,

Carmen L. Bell
