Welcome to Non-Traditional Program North,

It's a brand new year and in just a few weeks, we will begin our second year as Non-Traditional Program North, where we serve 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade scholars! In order to foster an even greater sense of community and build upon the traditions of NTPN, I would like to introduce the use of an annual theme. The purpose of a theme is to convey a message within a story. The theme will be our annual mission in that it will highlight our approach to teaching, learning, school culture, and the celebration of our success. The stories we create and tell this year will focus on creating community.

The Heart Beat of NTP North "Engage & Restore", Ready, Responsible, Respectful, Restorative - Danielle Brooks, Coordinating Supervisor

This year’s theme is “Engage and Restore - Every stakeholder by name and need”.

Together, we will create a sense of oneness and make every effort to show each individual scholar and staff member how important they are to the overall success of NTPNorth. “Engage and Restore - Every stakeholder by name and need” focuses on the whole person, including academic success, attendance, attitude, participation in athletics, the arts/CTE, and school sponsored activities

NTP North hosted an in-person orientation on Friday, August 25, 2023.  All new and returning scholars were encouraged to attend. Scholars were transported to campus by school bus.  During orientation, scholars had the opportunity to engage in community building, received an overview of NTP North’s instructional programming, meet the faculty and staff, as well as tour the school building. Scholars are expected to follow PGCPS dress code guidelines and school uniform policy everyday. (Further details can be found in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.)

Scholar Technology

Labeled Chromebook devices and chargers need to be carefully carried from home to school each day.  Only Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) devices will be able to access the internet at school. For scholars who have yet to receive a PGCPS device from either NTP North or their previous schools, NTP North will ask you to sign a Student Device Agreement upon receipt of a device. Carrying cases were distributed to all PGCPS scholars last year, so that Chromebooks can be stored and protected while in book bags and/or classrooms. Please remember that it is your scholar's responsibility to keep his/her Chromebook and charger clean and functioning.

Book Bags & School Uniforms

All scholars will use clear book bags for the 2023 - 2024 school year. You may click here to access clear book bags on sale at amazon.com.

School uniforms ARE required at NTP North. Scholars must adhere to the PGCPS dress code, details can be found in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

Staying Engaged

The PGCPS alert system - School Messenger - is an important means of school-to-home communication. All contact information in this alert platform is imported directly from the SchoolMAX Family Portal. It is important that we have the correct phone numbers, as well as email and home addresses for your scholar.  Click here to learn how to register, reset your password, and/or change your address information. You can also find additional information on the SchoolMAX Support for Parents and Guardians page.

Transportation

To secure school bus transportation for the start of the 2023 - 2024 school year, your scholar must be registered for school by Wednesday, August 9, 2023.  Please make sure your address and contact information is correct in Scriborder to avoid delays in service. Scholars living more than 1.5 miles from school should qualify for transportation. You may check on bus stop locations here. Once a bus has been assigned, you can contact the bus lot that the school bus originates from with any concerns or questions. Contact numbers can be found here. Additionally, transportation will be using a new phone app called Stop Finder which is available in the Google Play and Apple App stores to track where buses are in real-time.

Breakfast and Lunch Information

To ensure scholars continue to receive free and reduced-price meal benefits for the 2023 - 2024 school year, families must reapply. Free or reduced-price meals are available to scholars based on household size and income. If you have received a notice of eligibility for free meals, you do not have to complete the online application.

Important dates for the year can be found on the PGCPS School Calendar.

The NTP North faculty and staff feel privileged to serve you and your scholar. We thank you for your support and look forward to a productive school year.

Educationally yours,

Ms. Danielle Brooks
