November 16, 2023. 

Greetings Wildcat, Parents,Guardians, Students and Faculty, 

To ensure a smooth and efficient process for all students walking through the metal detector, it's essential to establish clear guidelines and procedures. CRI, SEAD, and students for breakfast in the cafeteria will enter through the C-Building. All other students will enter the Auditorium (DEF Auditorium). 

Here are updates on the mandated protocols based on feedback from the school community: 

Procedure for Instrumental Students Walking Through the Metal Detector:

• Preparation:

  • Arrive on time

  • Get in Line

  • NJROTC Cadets, Athletes, and VPA/Comprehensive Arts Students have items available for inspections.

• Opening the Bags/Instruments:

  • Remove all Chromebooks, 3 Ring Binders, and Umbrellas 

  • Approach the security checkpoint with closed, clear bags or closed instrument cases.

  • Gently open your bag for inspection or latches/ fasteners of your instrument case after you pass through the metal detector (Lift the lid or open the case to reveal the instrument inside).

• Security Interaction:

  • If security personnel request additional inspection or have questions, cooperate calmly and follow their instructions.

  • Provide any necessary information about your items, if requested.

• Metal Detector Walkthrough:

  • Walk through the metal detector with nothing other than your bookbag.

  • Follow the instructions of security/administrative personnel regarding the metal detector process.

  • Be patient and wait for the clearance signal before proceeding.

  • Students will be responsible for opening and closing instruments for inspection.

• Closing the Bags/Instrument Case:

  • Move to a directed designated area

  • Carefully close or place your items back into the case/bag.

  • Close and secure all latches or fasteners of the instrument case.

• Proceeding to Class:

  • Once your items are securely closed, proceed to your class or designated area.

  • Move to class or cafeteria to minimize disruptions to other students and staff.

Additional Tips:

• Be Organized

• Arrive early/ time

• Only CLEAR BAGS will be permitted on campus as mandated at the beginning of the school year. 

• Please wear uniform every day: Navy Blue bottoms and White shirts 

• Sweatshirts: White, Black, Navy Blue Only

By implementing these steps, we create a structured and efficient procedure that empowers all young Wildcats scholars, staff, and community to take responsibility while maintaining security protocols. Please plan accordingly.

Para garantizar un proceso fluido y eficiente para todos los estudiantes que pasan por el detector de metales, es esencial establecer pautas y procedimientos claros. CRI, SEAD y los estudiantes que desayunen en la cafetería entrarán por el edificio-C. Todos los demás estudiantes ingresarán al Auditorio (Auditorio DEF).

Aquí hay actualizaciones sobre los protocolos obligatorios basadas en los comentarios de la comunidad escolar:

Preparación:

Los cadetes, atletas y estudiantes de artes comprensivos/VPA de NJROTC tienen artículos disponibles para inspecciones.

Apertura de las bolsas/instrumentos:

Retire todos los Chromebooks, carpetas de 3 anillas y paraguas

Acérquese al control de seguridad con bolsas transparentes cerradas o estuches de instrumentos cerrados.

Abra suavemente su bolso para inspección o los pestillos/cierres de la caja de su instrumento después de pasar por el detector de metales (levante la tapa o abra la caja para revelar el instrumento en el interior).

Interacción de seguridad:

Si el personal de seguridad solicita una inspección adicional o tiene preguntas, coopere con calma y siga sus instrucciones.

Proporcione cualquier información necesaria sobre sus artículos, si así lo solicita.

Tutorial del detector de metales:

Pasa por el detector de metales sin nada más que tu mochila.

Siga las instrucciones del personal administrativo/de seguridad con respecto al proceso del detector de metales.

Sea paciente y espere la señal de autorización antes de continuar.

Los estudiantes serán responsables de abrir y cerrar los instrumentos para su inspección.

Cerrar las bolsas/caja del instrumento:

Muévase a un área designada dirigida

Cierre con cuidado o coloque sus artículos nuevamente en el estuche/bolsa.

Cierre y asegure todos los pestillos o sujetadores de la caja del instrumento.

Procediendo a la clase:

Una vez que sus artículos estén bien cerrados, diríjase a su clase o área designada.

Muévase a la clase o cafetería para minimizar las interrupciones a otros estudiantes y al personal.

Consejos adicionales:

• Organizar

• Llegar temprano/hora

• Solo se permitirán BOLSAS TRANSPARENTES en el campus según lo dispuesto al comienzo del año escolar.

• Por favor use uniforme todos los días: pantalón azul marino y camisa blanca.

• Sudaderas: Blanca, Negra, Azul Marino Solamente

Al implementar estos pasos, creamos un procedimiento estructurado y eficiente que permite a todos los jóvenes académicos, profesores  y comunidad de Wildcats asumir responsabilidades manteniendo los protocolos de seguridad. Por favor planifique en consecuencia.

Security Enhancements

October 27, 2023

Greetings Wildcat Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff,

This semester Northwestern High School will be implementing increased security enhancements for all students and visitors. As we roll out these new measures, please take note of the following:
● Students and visitors will walk through a weapons detection system upon arrival at the school.

Greetings Wildcat Parents, Guardians, & Students! 

Here are a few reminders/announcements as we close our second week of school. 

Safe & Orderly:

*As part of our safe and orderly learning environment ALL students are required to wear the school uniform. White polo with navy pants or skirt. 

*Sweaters, sweatshirts, and quarter zips are to be navy blue, black or white to align with our uniform.

*NHS students are also required to wear their school issued ID and carry clear backpacks. 

Driving & Parking:

*All student drivers must have a state issued valid driver's license with valid insurance and car registrations to park in student designated areas on Northwestern’s campus. 

*Starting October 2nd all cars on NHS camps that do not have a registered NHS parking decal will be subject to towing at the owner of the vehicle’s expense.  Students should contact Mr. Adejo (abayomi.adejo@pgcps.org) to register their vehicle. 

In order to park on campus in the designated student parking lot, students must have 

1. A valid driver’s license, 

2. Up to date Insurance, 

3. Registration

4. Northwestern Student Parking Tag- 30 dollar processing fee . 

If students are parked in the staff parking lot, they will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.  If a student parks on campus without properly registering their car with us, they will be subject to towing at the owner's expense.   Driving to school is a privileged and the

¡Saludos padres, tutores y estudiantes de Wildcat!

Aquí hay algunos recordatorios/anuncios mientras cerramos nuestra segunda semana de clases.

Seguro y ordenado:

*Como parte de nuestro ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y ordenado, TODOS los estudiantes deben usar el uniforme escolar. Polo blanco con pantalón o falda azul marino.

*Los suéteres, sudaderas y cremalleras de un cuarto deben ser de color azul marino, negro o blanco para alinearse con nuestro uniforme.

*Los estudiantes de NHS también deben usar su identificación emitida por la escuela y llevar mochilas transparentes.

Conducir y Estacionar:

*Todos los estudiantes conductores deben tener una licencia de conducir válida emitida por el estado con seguro válido y registros de automóvil para estacionar en las áreas designadas para estudiantes en el campus de Northwestern.

*A partir del 2 de octubre, todos los automóviles en los campamentos del NHS que no tengan una calcomanía de estacionamiento registrada del NHS estarán sujetos a remolque a cargo del propietario del vehículo. Greetings Wildcat Parents, Guardians, and Students! 

We are off to a great start of the school year! Parents please be reminded that the school day starts at 8:25 am and students should not be dropped off before 8 am. Also, remember that students should come to school in their complete uniform every day.  Students are allowed to wear navy blue, black, or white sweatshirts and sweaters only! Hats, hoods, ski masks, etc are not allowed in the building. Following these guidelines supports our safe and orderly environment.  In addition, we invite you to our community drug and safety meeting  tomorrow in our auditorium starting at 6pm.  Thank you for your continued support and together our Wildcat scholars will ROAR to the finish line which is their graduation! 

Parents and Guardians, we will see you tomorrow night @ 6pm and Scholars we will see you tomorrow in uniform no later than 8:25 am

¡Hemos tenido un gran comienzo de año escolar! Padres, este es un recordatorio de que el día escolar comienza a las 8:25 am y que no se debe dejar a los estudiantes antes de las 8 am. Además, recuerda que los estudiantes deberán acudir al colegio con su uniforme completo todos los días. ¡Los estudiantes pueden usar sudaderas y suéteres azul marino, negro o blanco únicamente! Community Letter from Principal Barker

July 14, 2023

Greetings Northwestern High School Community,

I am enthusiastic and honored to join the Wildcat Nation as your new acting principal. It is a privilege to lead this school community with such a rich history of talent and cultural excellence.

Professionally, I have twenty years in education as I have served the students in Guilford County Public Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, and Prince George’s County Public Schools as a teacher and assistant principal. I earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Romance Languages & Literature from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC and a Masters of Science degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Morgan State University. My unique experiences, and my commitment to continuous learning, has helped shape my educational philosophy and focus.

Here at Northwestern High School, the teachers and staff have laid the foundation to support the success of our scholars. I am excited to share my vision as we develop an innovative, transformative, and collaborative school program. I am committed to creating an environment that is conducive for teaching through Visible Learning by building a culture of equity and relationship building.

Together we will ensure that students “Let Their Talents Roar” by creating a positive and safe culture and climate, fostering an environment that leads to high academic success for our scholars, and building effective relationships during their educational journey. Please look for communication in the near future on how we will begin those collaborative conversations.

I invite you to join me for a community meet and greet on July 20, 2023 at 6:30 pm at Northwestern High School. I look forward to engaging with parents, teachers, staff, and community members to provide a distinguished educational experience for each student.
