Calling all Wildcat Parents, Teachers, Students and Community Partners to join the Northwestern High School PTSA!

Greetings Wildcat Parents, Guardians and Students,  

In an effort to ensure a smooth and safe entrance and dismissal from school, and to help alleviate traffic on Adelphi Rd, you will notice that gates have been added to our parking lot. This will assist with ensuring that vehicles are following the preexisting traffic arrows on our Northwestern campus. 

Please note the following:

• Northwestern’s school day begins at 8:25 a.m. Students are considered late if they arrive at 8:30 a.m. or later. 

• Student drop-offs/pick-ups may only enter Northwestern through the main entrance and make an immediate right into the parking lot. Then follow the preexisting traffic arrows to the drop-off locations. 

• Students may enter at the main entrance and turn left into the student parking lot. All student drivers must have a valid license and be registered to park on Northwestern’s campus; otherwise, vehicles will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense. 

• For student drop-offs, students should not exit vehicles before indicated drop-off locations. 

Please see the enclosed diagram for Northwestern’s traffic pattern.

En un esfuerzo por garantizar una entrada y salida de la escuela sin problemas y segura, y para ayudar a aliviar el tráfico en Adelphi Rd, notará que se han agregado puertas a nuestro estacionamiento. Esto ayudará a garantizar que los vehículos sigan las flechas de tráfico preexistentes en nuestro campus del Noroeste.

We are well into the second semester, and we hope this message finds you well. As partners in your child's education, we want to emphasize the importance of sending your child to school every day, in uniform, to contribute to the creation and maintenance of a safe and orderly learning environment.

Greetings Wildcat Parents, Guardians, and Students! Happy New Year! 

As we return from our  winter break, we want to extend our sincere thanks for partnering with us to ensure our young wildcats have a safe and well-balanced high school experience. Prince George's County Public Schools will return to regular school activities on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Please make sure your student arrives at Northwestern High School no later than 8:30 am. 

• All students should enter the school, passing through the security enhancement devices  in the C-Building starting at 8 am (for breakfast) or the Auditorium starting at 7:45 am.

• Students should be in class at 8: 30 am; students are required to be on time for all classes.

• Every student is expected to wear  their school uniform daily, which is the following: a white collared shirt with NAVY pants or skirt. 

• Students coming late to school, skipping classes, or dressing out of uniform will be sanctioned according to the student code of conduct.

• Students should park in the student designated areas on Northwestern’s campus; all vehicles must have the correct Northwestern parking tag. Once we receive more student tags, we will resume students parking registrations. If students are parked in the staff parking lot, they will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense. If a student parks on campus without properly registering their car with us, they will be subject to towing at the owner's expense.   Driving to school is a privilege. 

• The second quarter ends on January 19, 2024, and report cards will be disseminated on February 07, 2024.

¡Saludos padres, tutores y estudiantes de Wildcat! ¡Feliz año nuevo!

Al regresar de nuestras vacaciones de invierno, queremos extender nuestro más sincero agradecimiento por asociarse con nosotros para garantizar que nuestros jóvenes gatos monteses tengan una experiencia segura y equilibrada en la escuela secundaria. Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Prince George regresarán a las actividades escolares regulares el miércoles 3 de enero de 2024. Asegúrese de que su estudiante llegue a la Escuela Secundaria Northwestern a más tardar a las 8:30 am.

Safe & Orderly Updates

Greetings Wildcat, Parents,Guardians, Students and Faculty, 

To ensure a smooth and efficient process for all students walking through the metal detector, it's essential to establish clear guidelines and procedures. CRI, SEAD, and students for breakfast in the cafeteria will enter through the C-Building. All other students will enter the Auditorium (DEF Auditorium). 

Here are updates on the mandated protocols based on feedback from the school community: 

Procedure for Instrumental Students Walking Through the Metal Detector:

• Preparation:

  • Arrive on time

  • Get in Line

  • NJROTC Cadets, Athletes, and VPA/Comprehensive Arts Students have items available for inspections.

• Opening the Bags/Instruments:

  • Remove all Chromebooks, 3 Ring Binders, and Umbrellas 

  • Approach the security checkpoint with closed, clear bags or closed instrument cases.

  • Gently open your bag for inspection or latches/ fasteners of your instrument case after you pass through the metal detector (Lift the lid or open the case to reveal the instrument inside).

• Security Interaction:

  • If security personnel request additional inspection or have questions, cooperate calmly and follow their instructions.

  • Provide any necessary information about your items, if requested.

• Metal Detector Walkthrough:

  • Walk through the metal detector with nothing other than your bookbag.

  • Follow the instructions of security/administrative personnel regarding the metal detector process.

  • Be patient and wait for the clearance signal before proceeding.

  • Students will be responsible for opening and closing instruments for inspection.

• Closing the Bags/Instrument Case:

  • Move to a directed designated area

  • Carefully close or place your items back into the case/bag.

  • Close and secure all latches or fasteners of the instrument case.

• Proceeding to Class:

  • Once your items are securely closed, proceed to your class or designated area.

  • Move to class or cafeteria to minimize disruptions to other students and staff.

Additional Tips:

• Be Organized

• Arrive early/ time

• Only CLEAR BAGS will be permitted on campus as mandated at the beginning of the school year. 

• Please wear uniform every day: Navy Blue bottoms and White shirts 

• Sweatshirts: White, Black, Navy Blue Only

By implementing these steps, we create a structured and efficient procedure that empowers all young Wildcats scholars, staff, and community to take responsibility while maintaining security protocols. Please plan accordingly.

Para garantizar un proceso fluido y eficiente para todos los estudiantes que pasan por el detector de metales, es esencial establecer pautas y procedimientos claros. Muévase a la clase o cafetería para minimizar las interrupciones a otros estudiantes y al personal.

• Solo se permitirán BOLSAS TRANSPARENTES en el campus según lo dispuesto al comienzo del año escolar.

Al implementar estos pasos, creamos un procedimiento estructurado y eficiente que permite a todos los jóvenes académicos, profesores  y comunidad de Wildcats asumir responsabilidades manteniendo los protocolos de seguridad. Por favor planifique en consecuencia.

Security Enhancements

This semester Northwestern High School will be implementing increased security enhancements for all students and visitors. As we roll out these new measures, please take note of the following:
● Students and visitors will walk through a weapons detection system upon arrival at the school.

Greetings Wildcat Parents, Guardians, & Students! 

Here are a few reminders/announcements as we close our fourth week of school. 

Safe & Orderly:

*As part of our safe and orderly learning environment ALL students are required to wear the school uniform. White polo with navy pants or skirt. 

*Sweaters, sweatshirts, and quarter zips are to be navy blue, black or white to align with our uniform.

*NHS students are also required to wear their school issued ID and carry clear backpacks. 

Driving & Parking:

*All student drivers must have a state issued valid driver's license with valid insurance and car registrations to park in student designated areas on Northwestern’s campus. 

*Starting October 2nd all cars on NHS camps that do not have a registered NHS parking decal will be subject to towing at the owner of the vehicle’s expense.  Students should contact Mr. Adejo (abayomi.adejo@pgcps.org) to register their vehicle. 

In order to park on campus in the designated student parking lot, students must have 

1. A valid driver’s license, 

2. Up to date Insurance, 

3. Registration

4. Northwestern Student Parking Tag- 30 dollar processing fee . 

If students are parked in the staff parking lot, they will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.  If a student parks on campus without properly registering their car with us, they will be subject to towing at the owner's expense.   Driving to school is a privileged.

Aquí hay algunos recordatorios/anuncios mientras cerramos nuestra segunda semana de clases.

Seguro y ordenado:

*Como parte de nuestro ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y ordenado, TODOS los estudiantes deben usar el uniforme escolar. Polo blanco con pantalón o falda azul marino.
