Welcome to Thomas Stone Elementary

Dear Thomas Stone Family,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year. We hope everyone enjoyed the summer! This year, PGCPS’ strategic plan is “Forward by Design,” and the focus is on: Student Success, Staff & Leaders (Workforce Development), Expanding Access to Programs, Family and Community Partnerships, and Organizational Culture. To support these initiatives, Thomas Stone will continue to provide virtual and in-person after-school activities, parent workshops, and other resources for our parents and students, helping us remain a proudly diverse community of learners serving the neighborhoods of Mt. Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood, and Chillum.

Our School hours are from 7:30 to 1:45 PM. The doors will open for breakfast at 7:15 a.m. All parents are welcome to bring their children to school each morning and accompany them to their classes. However, all visitors entering the building must bring a valid photo ID to receive a visitor's pass. Students are considered late if they arrive in their classroom after 7:30 AM. Early dismissal pickups will not be allowed after 1:15 PM.

Transportation will send home a mailing with additional information on bus routes.

School safety is a priority. To maintain a safe and orderly environment, we have arrival and dismissal procedures for the parking lot. Cars will only be allowed to enter through the third gate, and buses will enter through the second gate. There will also be designated walking areas for students and families. Please see the enclosed map.

At Thomas Stone, a uniform policy fosters a sense of unity and equality among our students. As such, we have a mandatory uniform policy. All students must wear uniforms that conform to our school’s uniform policy and the Prince George's County Public Schools system-wide dress code, available in the Student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook online.

Collared shirts and blouses must be white, light blue, or baby blue.
Pants, skirts, dresses, and shorts must be navy blue or black.
Blue jeans are not permitted.
Sweaters and sweatshirts worn in classes must be solid white, light blue, baby blue, navy blue, or black.
Shoes should be a solid color with enclosed/covered toes. Flashing lights, sounds, and wheels are not permitted.

This year, in grades Kindergarten to 4th grade, each student will have two classroom teachers. One teacher will be the RELA/Social Studies teacher, and the other will be the Math/Science/Health teacher. Student schedules and homeroom teachers' names will be available on the first day of school. On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, all students will go to a designated area by grade level and meet their teachers. Please refer to the parking map enclosed for details on dismissal procedures.
