Greetings Raider Family and Happy New School Year,
On behalf of the Eleanor Roosevelt High School Administration, Instructional and Support Staff, I would like to welcome you to school year 2026-2027; our theme for this school year is: “Forward Teaching and Learning…The Roosevelt Way”. “The Roosevelt Way”, our mantra, is grounded in the four tenants, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Kindness. I am excited about what the school year will bring and what we will accomplish together.
This year's theme, “Forward Teaching and Learning”, reflects our commitment to continuous growth, innovation, and excellence. Moving forward means honoring the strong traditions that have defined Eleanor Roosevelt High School and creating new opportunities that prepare every Raider for success in an ever-changing world. Collectively, we will continue to exemplify our vision: “Creating lifelong learners and innovative leaders who model respect, professionalism and empathy beyond the classroom.”
As always, our school-wide goals will echo and maintain alignment with the district’s strategic plan, PGCPS “Forward by Design: Acceleration 2029”. Our collaborative work will be rooted in our district priorities which are 1) Student Success 2) Staff and Leaders 3) Expanding Access to Programs 4) Family and Community Partnerships and 5) Organizational Culture.
Lastly, as we prepare and plan for the teaching and learning, we will also prepare and plan to celebrate 50 YEARS OF RAIDER EXCELLENCE. ERHS first opened its doors to students in September 1976. It was established as part of the expansion of Prince George's County Public Schools and was the first high school in the United States named in honor of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. As a proud alumna, I am looking forward to celebrating the rich history and achievements of Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
Let us get ready for an amazing year! The information on the following pages provides guidance and expectations for our Raiders and important upcoming dates so that we can have a successful start of the school year.
Stay safe and I am looking forward to seeing you soon,
Dr. Portia Barnes
Your Homegrown Principal
