Vision

To build an inclusive school community of excellence where scholars exceed proficiency standards while gaining the knowledge, skills and character traits that will lead to college and career readiness, life-long learning and civic engagement.

Mission

To provide a rigorous, nurturing and safe environment that inspires students to maximize their potential by:

  • Actively promoting and maintaining the belief that all children have the capacity to learn at high levels.
  • Actively teaching students, staff and parents that intelligence is not an innate trait but is a result of effective effort and hard work.

World Language Spanish Program Goals

  • To develop proficiency in Spanish at the beginning stages of language acquisition.
  • To provide a meaningful context for developing communication skills in Spanish so that students can:
    • engage in simple conversations, speak and write short sentences, and read/understand brief text.
  • To build an understanding and appreciation for the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • To strengthen the language competency of Spanish speaking students (native or heritage speakers).

World Language Spanish Purpose is

  • To prepare students to begin developing functional skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
  • To provide a nurturing environment where students feel comfortable learning a second language.
  • To develop proficiency in oral and written communication in Spanish through the integration of language skills and concepts taught in the content areas.
  • To encourage all students to develop an openness, understanding and appreciation for other cultures.

Program Structure

  • Students in grades K-2 will receive Spanish instruction 30 minutes each day.
  • Students in grades 3-5 will receive Spanish instruction 30-90 minutes a week.
