Students

This year we will be implementing schoolwide AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies will be incorporated in all contents in order to better prepare students to be college and career ready. Below is a basic school supply list that will assist with preparing students for the start of the school year and helping them with organization. Please note that although this is a generic school supply list, teachers may request additional supplies for their individual classes.

G. James Gholson Middle School Uniform Policy

Gholson Knights take pride in their school and their appearance. Gholson is a MANDATORY UNIFORM SCHOOL. The uniform policy will be enforced for all students.  Each student must be dressed each day as follows:

  • Tops

    • 6th Grade Uniforms:  Yellow polo shirt with collar (short or long sleeve) and a black cardigan sweater; no hood

    • 7th Grade Uniforms:  White polo shirt with collar (short or long sleeve) and a black cardigan sweater; no hood

    • 8th Grade Uniforms:  Royal Blue polo shirt with collar (short or long sleeve) and a black cardigan sweater; no hood

  • Pants/Bottoms:

    • ALL students must wear tan khaki pants (no jogger, carpenter, stretch, cargo, jeans, yoga/jeggings/leggings pants

    • Tan khaki skirts (need to be finger tip length) 

    • Close-toe shoes (NO Crocs, flip-flops, or open-toe footwear) 

    • Brown or black belt (at no time should undergarments be showing) 

    • Black cardigan sweater (button or zipper down front, can open fully, NO pullover sweaters or hoodies)

Cell Phone Use Policy

Definition:

Cell Phone includes, but is not limited to, iPhones, "smart" phones, Internet enabled phones, ... and other devices that are capable of placing and/or receiving telephone calls [or] text messages, ... creating and distributing videos [or] photographs, and the like.

Personal Electronic Device is an electronic device that emits an audible signal, visual signal, vibration, displays a message, or otherwise summons the possessor.  [This includes but it not limited to] paging devices, ... video cameras, iPods or other MP3 players, laser pointers, portable video game players, laptop computers, ... and any device that provides a connection to the Internet.

Students are prohibited from using PEDs in the following manner on school property:

 

  1. Using PEDs in locker rooms or bathrooms at any time.
  2. Using PEDs while getting on or off the school bus.
  3. “Sexting” or the taking and/or transmission of nude or sexually explicit photos or videos in school.
  4. The unauthorized or unlawful sharing or electronic posting of images taken or stored on PEDs during school hours and/or on school property.
  5. Taking, uploading or sharing photos, recording audio, or capturing video during the school day in a manner that reflects bullying, harassment, intimidation or cyber bullying.
  6. Using PEDs in any manner that reflects violations in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

Students are permitted to use cell phones/PEDs on school property only:

  • Before and after regular school hours, or with the permission of the school staff member in charge
  • At after-school or athletic activities
  • In an emergency situation, or
  • For instructional use, as approved by the student's teacher and school administration.

PGCPS Cellphone PED Board Policy 5132 defines and explains acceptable use for cellular (cell) phones and PEDs.
