Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year at Thurgood Marshall MS!

Dear TMMS Parents and Students,

As we approach the start of the 2025-2026 school year, I am excited to welcome you to what promises to be a productive and engaging year at Thurgood Marshall Middle School.

Our primary focus this year is to enhance our students' academic success while also encouraging greater involvement in social and extracurricular activities. We believe that a well-rounded education includes both strong academic performance and active participation in school life.

Important Updates for the New School Year

New Student Orientation:

  • Monday, August 25, 2025 (Half- Day)

First Day of School:

  • The first day of school is August 26, 2025.

School Hours:

  • There has been a change to TMMS school hours. The student school day will now begin at 8:30 am and end at 3:10 pm. Early dismissal will conclude at 2:40 pm.

Clear Bookbags Requirement:

  • Students are required to carry clear bookbags to ensure safety and security within our school.

Uniform Policy Update

Please note a slight change in our student uniform policy for the upcoming school year. Below are the updated guidelines:

Uniform Guidelines:

  • Khaki Pants/Shorts: Beige-colored, to be worn at the natural waistline.
  • Polo Shirts: Solid colors by grade level:
    • 6th Grade: RED
    • 7th Grade: BLACK
    • 8th Grade: GRAY
  • Sweaters and Sweatshirts: Solid-colored crew neck sweatshirts or sweaters in the same colors as the polo shirts. Hooded sweatshirts, including zipped hoodies, are not allowed.
  • Skirts: Khaki-colored, knee-length or longer, worn at the natural waistline.
  • Head Coverings: Please refer to the PGCPS system-wide Dress Code for Students.

Not Allowed:

  • Hooded clothing
  • Flip-flops or open-toe shoes
  • Slippers/slides
  • Form-fitting clothing
  • Cropped tops
  • Jeans or denims
  • Head coverings unless for religious reasons

Special Cases:

If any student is unable to obtain the proper uniform, please contact the grade-level administrator or professional school counselor for assistance. Students may also substitute uniform shirts with official TMMS school spirit items.

Your cooperation with these guidelines ensures a conducive learning environment for all our students.

We are looking forward to a fantastic school year filled with growth, learning, and fun. Your support and engagement are crucial to making this year successful.

Dear TMMS Parents and Students,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we have put together a general supply list for each academic core subject. Please note that this list is a general guide, and students may require a few additional items from their teachers, including their creative arts teachers. Not all items are required on the first day of school, and students are not expected to bring each item to school every day. However, students will need their spiral notebooks, pocket folders, loose leaf paper, a compact case for writing utensils, and writing utensils every day along with personal items such as a water bottle, tissue, hand sanitizer, and personal hygiene items.

General Items for All Classes:

  • Loose leaf paper

  • Pencils

  • Pens

  • Pencil sharpener

  • Scissors

  • Glue stick

  • Highlighters

  • Mini stapler

  • Tape

  • Colored pencils

  • Crayons

  • Markers

  • 1 pack of index cards

  • 1 pack of post-it notes

Math:

  • 1 Spiral Notebook (5 subject)

  • 4-function calculator

  • Graph paper

  • 2 pocket folders

Reading Language Arts:

  • 1 composition notebook and 1 spiral notebook (or 2 of each; composition preferred for durability)

  • 2 double pocket folders

Science:

  • 2 composition or spiral notebooks

  • 2 pocket folders

  • Graph paper

  • Ruler (metric and standard measurements)

  • Protractor

  • Compass (for drawing circles)

Social Studies:

  • 2 spiral notebooks or 2 composition books

  • 2 pocket folders
