School begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 1:55 p.m. Remember…in order to receive the full benefit of the instructional program at William Beanes Elementary School it is important to be present and on time every day. For the safety of our students, children are not permitted to arrive at school before 7:30 a.m unless they are having breakfast. An adult must remain with non breakfast eaters until the doors open at 7:30 a.m. William Beanes will continue to participate in the Maryland Meals Program where all of our students receive free breakfast daily. Breakfast will be served from 7:25am- 7:40am. To assist our cafeteria staff in being prepared to start lunch on time, the breakfast line must close promptly at 7:40am. All students arriving to school late other than late buses must eat breakfast at home.
Your child should be in school on time and in classes every day. Please help us to provide our children with the knowledge needed to be smart and productive by minimizing absences and tardiness. Children can never regain time lost from instruction because they are late or tardy.
Absences: Illnesses and emergencies are excused absences. All students should return to school after an absence with a signed note explaining the absence. An out-of-town trip is not an excused absence. We cannot expect students to perform satisfactory if they are not present for instructions.
Tardies: Students are tardy at 7:46 a.m. Students should be in their seats and ready to work at 7:45 a.m. Repeated tardies and absences will result in a conference with administration.
Dismissal starts at 1:55 p.m. in the following order: Bus students will be dismissed first, followed by walkers and pickups. Please understand that for the safety of your children, visitors will not be allowed in the building during active dismissal. There will be no early dismissal after 1:30 p.m.
Prince George's County Public Schools will now release occur on a 3-HR Early dismissal. William Beanes will dismiss at 10:55am on those days. Please see Homepage for Important Dates and look out for flyers to be sent home.
Whenever there is the threat of precipitation, please monitor television and radio stations as well as the PGCPS website for information regarding early closings. If the school system dismisses 2 hours early, students will be dismissed at 11:55 a.m. All students are expected to go home as they normally do. After 11:55 a.m., staff is also dismissed. No staff members will be on duty to monitor students.
Bus information is available on the PGCPS Transportation webpage. Please review the a.m. and p.m. bus numbers with your child. Sometimes the morning and afternoon buses have different route numbers. Please take the time to memorize your child’s bus number in the event of an emergency.
A basic school supplies list can be found on the PGCPS School Supplies List webpage. Students should come to school prepared with necessary supplies on a daily basis along with being ready to learn.
Student Agenda Handbooks will be required to assist with school-home communication, time management and goal setting. The books contain important phone numbers, school calendar and, information regarding policies and procedures. There is NO COST for Agenda books.
The students are required to wear white polo shirts, navy blue uniform pants, jumpers, skirts, or skorts and solid color dress shoes at all times. There will no exceptions to this policy. Donating your old, clean uniforms would greatly benefit new and returning William Beanes families.
Homework is assigned nightly or weekly based on your child's the classroom teacher. We ask parents to help their child by establishing some homework guidelines and cooperating with the teacher in seeing that the assignments are completed. Please check your child’s backpack on a daily basis.
